OSPRE SGT PART 1

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm looking to take my Sgt exam March 2012. I appreciate it's a bit early but am looking to find the best way to study sooner rather than later.

I've heard and read several people's views on the best way to pass this exam ranging from ;

Crammer books

Blackstones

Blackstones Q & A

Audio CD'S

Checkmate 3 day training course

I'm more than willing to put the time, effort and money in to pass this exam as I don't want to take it a second time if I can help it however using all of the above at the same time must be very confusing, am I better off picking 2/3 tried methods and sticking with them ? I appreciate we all have our different methods of learning (mine is generally books, notes and highlighter pens).

Finally, I have my original 2007 Blackstones, do I REALLY need to purchase another set??

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

I have been advised to get an up to date set of blackstones because a number of things have changed and so 2007 is quite an out of date set. Ive been recommended blackstones manuals 2012, the q & a, plus the tom barron audio cds.

Might be worth having a look at the Police Visual Handbook on ncalt.com (assuming your force subscribes)

Any ideas where I could get a hold of some sort of revision timetable/schedule to try to structure my revision?

if you can get on the checkmate 3 day course, it is worth the money, i used it for the CID exam and it worked a treat. They sent me a list of topics to study, this included "the hot list" ones that always seem to come up, "the A list" ones that will probably come up and finally, ones that if you want to take a risk don't bother learning, I stuck to their rules and passed. good instructors as well.
