MET PROMOTION

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the met promotion procedure is now,  if you are a qualified ospre part 1 and 2 sgt.I believe that they have scrapped pt 2 and if you pass part one you do a year on some sort of trial and then you can go forward. The reason I ask is I am on the way back after a 2 yr break and would like to know where I stand having passed the old procedure.

You can still do the old part 3 and forgo the workplace trial which by the sounds of it is a right pain in the backside, as I have been advised by those taking it... I'm, in the similar situation,

This is the official policy:

If you have passed Part One & Two of OSPRE then you can put in a TOWBAR form for PC - PS (or indeed DC - DS but you have to have a Crime Manager's report to say you are suitable). If your local panel approves it you can then be promoted straight off, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred quid, do not do a year's worth of in-house assessment that is well weary.

Bit of a result, I'm really regretting not doing OSPRE 2 as I've been TOWBAR'D!

Are the Met taking transfers from Pc/Dc's on promotion who have both part 1 and 2?

can you join the Met on promotion to a Ds if you are a qualified Dc with parts 1 and 2 of the exam?

I would imagine you could join the Towbar but what about straight promotion?

What is TOWBAR? And why would you need a year assessment if you passed the exams?

croberon,

You are preaching to the converted. I disagree with a year long assessment if you have passed the exams but it seems like a vehicle for promotiom that my own force and others like it are not taking.

Corky:

Sounds a little a** backwards to me; it would make more logic to assess people for a year firstto find out if they have the on-the-job skills to take the exam. Otherwise, people are either discouraged from taking the exam or they take the exam and look for another force to join where they can receive the promotion immediately.

Do you at least get a sergeant's pay during the assessment?
