  1. http://www.college.police.uk/News/College-news/Pages/direct_entry_insp.aspx Another kick for those officers with years of service who have passed their exams up to Inspector. Theres not enough posts to go around as it is without direct entry. Are the college saying there isn't enough skill, experience and diversity in the almost 4000 officers already qualified? Disgraceful in my opinion.

    Pension Challenge

The fed won't fight it because they were involved in designing the scheme. they won't challenge something they suggested.

    2016 Pension Statements

Got my pension forecast, Its good news, I am going to be rich, rich beyond my wildest dreams! If I work 40 years and 2 weeks until I am 60 I will basically get the same pension I should have got at 49 years and 50 weeks old. So thats 10 years and 2 weeks more of paying in (approx £55k) in total and 10 years 2 weeks of not claiming the pension i was promised (about £290k if i didn't take any commutation). Absolutely shafted about £350k down after working 10 years for the pleasure. Still thanks to the stirling work of the fed I might be able to get some tattoos on my face and neck in order to brighten up the rest of my service! I have asked for projections based on retiring at 30 years service and 55 years old and have been refused. How am I meant to plan financially? You know to make up the extra with investments as the government suggested was possible, using the money i am able to save from my salary which is decreasing year on year thanks to the same government?

    Tattoo's - Federation

I only wish the fed spent the same money and effort fight for the pensions, pay and conditions of its members. The members who fund them. Instead they seem intent on wasting time and money banging on about an issue that affects people who want to join the police, people who are not members of the federation and who don't fund them. This is another own goal from the federation. I think most tattoos look crap, not unprofessional as such but they just don't appeal to me. I really could care less if any professional I deal with has them or not as long as they aren't offensive.

    Death by Taser

If i had a taser ticket I would be handing it in.

    Pension Challenge

Common misconception you would be able to draw your 2015 pension from 55 years old but it would be actuarily reduced from state pension age. This can be done as long as you have done 30 years, so you would get your old pension on retirement then the new at 55

    Fitness Test

It is really, I notice when doing to 5.4 my body is just starting to shift from anerobic to aerobic functioning, the same reason i always feel tired at about 800m to 1km into a run if i haven't done a proper warm up before hand (which i rarely do). I actually feel better by the time i get to level 6 or 7 than i do at level 5. I did my fitness test last month and went up to level 11 and then stopped, maybe i had a little bit more in the tank but not much. I only had to do 6.3 but I wanted to satisfy myself that if at some time in the future I wanted to apply for a firearms role then I would be able to pass the test for rapid intervention. I appreciate I probably do more exercise than most people but level 5.4 shouldn't be difficult in the slightest for someone wit an ounce of self respect providing of course they don't have any genuine physical ailment. You could train yourself to level 5.4 by spending a few minutes exercising 3 times a week and by not eating a terrible diet.
  9. If you protect the vulnerable successfully then nothing will happen to them so I don't think its possible to measure nothing happening if you get what I mean. Its an important area of policing without a doubt but I am not sure how you can measure it and I am sure that the Homes secretary (now the prime minister) didn't want forces to be measuring everything anyway (performance indicators), our only role is to reduce crime apparently.

    1% Pay Rise

After loosing the last of my CRTP, paying increased NI and loosing a little unsocial hours payment my take home pay this period (4 weeks) will be £130 less than my pay in March. Now thats a quality of life affecting loss, Also how am i meant to save more towards retiring when i should have when I'm loosing money hand over fist?

    1% Pay Rise

I lost the last of my crtp too, so that together with the increase in Ni means its yet another pay cut.

    Pension Challenge

Some interesting updates coming out via the FBU recently re their pension challenge. After reading their update the theory some hold about any challenge being successful resulting in the removal of tapering/protection from others is blow out of the water by the case of Colouroll Pension trustees vs Russell

    Leigh Day

The national fed chair was tweeting about Leigh Day and linking articles about issues which are nothing to do with the pensions challenge. I wasn't sure why he was posting such stuff when its nothing to do with him and he doesn't normally link news articles. i asked him why he was posting about this but was very silent about the ongoing fraud investigation in the federation. His response was to block me! The police federation, engaging and communicating with their members to a high standard yet again!

    £50 Pay Cut!!

Only £50 cut? Lucky you I also lost the last bit of CRTP this pay period so I am about £70 down every 4 weeks! Thanks!

    Any advice for a newbie?

100% do not get a good selection of apps you can use on constants - if you are messing about with your phone whilst doing a constant you are not doing it properly. It takes a second for the person you are watching to harm themselves or neck the drugs they have concealed. If this happens when you are on the phone then you will be in trouble. Any good custody officer will make it clear that phone use is not acceptable when doing a constant, also consider your actions will almost certainly be recorded on the custody CCTV so when it all goes wrong you won't have a leg to stand on.

Sue the Police at your peril

Birtley isn't in south tyneside, its in Gateshead. (well Durham really as it has a DH post code but nobody seems to want the place) Etal lane police station is only a couple of minutes away from where the Rathband incident took place.

Sue the Police at your peril

Its hardly the same thing as pensions challenge is it? An individual action against a single force vs thousands of officers claiming against the government (with a no win no fee agreement in place)

    Public Holidays via NPCC

"Some might be enlightened by looking at the hours many people in other jobs put in beyond their contracted ones as a matter of routine, the distances they have to travel to find work, the hours spent commuting, the requirements to constantly hit ever increasing targets lest they be dismissed and the numbers of people they are responsible for, often for remuneration that wouldn't tempt a top rate PC or Sgt." I love this bit. ha ha ha. You have no idea what responsibility i have or the hours i work.

    Public Holidays via NPCC

I get the say on leave as a single point of contact for my department across a few nicks on my shift.............Except i don't because i am bound by a set of rules that don't allow any flexibility or common sense to be applied. Loads of times I have wanted to give staff time off when they want it because the resources would allow it in my opinion however the rules that someone who i have never even seen at my place of work imposes don't.

    TOIL v PAYMENT

I won't work for TOIL, no point when you can't take it at any time when its any use to me. A tuesday morning off in february isn't much good for anything.

    Smart Phone for videoing

If they are not driving then as distasteful as it is its not an offence. Police are stretched enough without following these sort of things up.

    Always check your pockets

Probably because the law (PACE code G) won't allow them to authorise detention.

    Fed redeems itself.

I see outside of redeeming themselves here the fed JBB's have voted to ignore recommendation 36 of the Norrington report. The bit about the rebate in subscriptions. What happened to them accepting all of the recommendations as they had previously claimed?
