Why is it too late? What could they have achieved?

he was talking historically about a deal the federation allegedly struck. nothing to do with recent concessions by the firefighters.

They secured us a better deal than the Firefighters despite only having the power to consult, rather than negotiate. You are angry; we all get it, but it can't be helped. Nothing is going to change. No one is going to wave a wand. It is what it is and we have to come to terms with it.

    30 years, what then?

Mummy Patrol ain't gonna like that casual sexism one bit!In all seriousness, that was a lovely, touching post. Very best wishes for the future and congratulations on your retirement.

I can't help thinking that Silver Plated may be some sort of a wind up merchant. Either that or he is in the know but doesn't wish to reveal how.... my own two cents for what they're worth are that this is some sort of sick joke!

no mystery about red rum; he has gone to the place where good horses go. Shergar on the other hand....

Really? It has always been my suspicion that the Federation will do no such thing!

Will this happen Ed? Or will your chief constable enforce regulation A19 upon you on completion of your thirty years?

Niccop, Regardless of whether you are proved right or wrong, your postings above are absolutely excellent! Top marks for your research and for the time you have spent on this topic!

Why does it matter to you who they got the advice from? Would you like them to go on and on with different legal firms until someone provided the answer you seek? The fact is that they took advice and acted on it. We are living in peculiar times. The public sector is taking a beating and no one other than ourselves believes that the police should get off more lightly than anyone else. That is the reason we would lose the argument if we were to pursue it. Hmg may then Impose its initial proposals thereby affecting thousands More and preventing you drawing your pension until the age of 67! Unless of course you are still up for it at 60.

Yes the federation agreed on behalf of its members. That is what the federation does; it gets the best deal it can for us! If they had gone to the bother of canvassing each and every one of us and been given a clear mandate to pursue section 2, they would then have sought legal advice. The same conclusion would then be drawn- you will likely lose in court, get the best deal you can! Why is this so hard to comprehend? There are some winners and sadly some losers. Those in the latter bracket have absolutely nothing to lose but to continually grope blindly in the dark is leading nowhere. Let's be clear; there is very little chance of a challenge by the federation; they have reluctantly secured the best deal they could.

Thank you! Another question: why have we bothered with the last eighty or so pages of this thread? Wasn't it clear from the outset? The federation took legal advice, were told we would lose so secured the best deal they could! End of! Close the thread moderators!

I'm sorry, but can anyone tell me exactly how the Federation can appeal against a decision that they have already agreed to? One that mirrors, almost to a tee their own proposals. Or why they would want to? Wouldn't it make them look foolish?

Oh dear, this is hard work! I'm sorry but I thought your initial post was suggesting that you would like to contribute financially but were unable to because you were "off" Facebook at the moment. So i replied sarcastically, because it was quite clear that you would in fact be able to contribute quite easily- if you really wanted to And lo and behold- you did just that, ( I will take your word that you really did)! Would you like me to break it down any further?
  20. Colt Seavers

Oh well you couldn't possibly contribute in that case then, could you? Of course I would contribute as well, but, erm, erm....

Please may I very politely suggest that it is a little crass to seek to use yesterday's senseless and unspeakable tragedy as some kind of a clarion call to open the eyes of the general public to the plight of police officers pensions! I would ask that the moderators of this forum are vigilant to such naked opportunism and that this thread remains very Much on topic. Please note that I haven't attached this observation to any previous post; this is not an attempt to denigrate any particular individual!

Until the announcement of the ten year safety rule last November or so, no one had any protection. Billysboots and cheese puff will only too well remember how they felt. I am in the same position as both of them as far as I can see and until the protection was offered, I felt cheated and angry! To suggest that either of those posters have somehow been insensitive, and to suggest as shafted did last night that they are making smart arse comments is, frankly insulting to two excellent posters. As I have said before, we are all affected in some way and that is due to the policy of hmg. Let's not turn it on each other. I have not once detected any kind of gloating on this forum, cheese puff appears now to be considering his options as they say , which is a pity. His posts are insightful and offered with the best of intentions in my humble opinion.

Trust me, they are not 'selling you down the river for their own pension pots'. The only reason we all now know about Section 2 is because the Fed told us about it during the consultation period! I am extremely confident that few, if any of us were even aware of it until that point. The Federation have taken legal advice and have been advised that it is a non starter. Why is that so difficult to understand? Please do yourself a favour and forget Section 2. HMG are not remotely concerned by it; I absolutely guarantee you that! Everybody across the public sector is taking the hit; we are no different. Try not to turn this onto the Fed; they represent our best interests and have secured a number of 'wins' that are the envy of the fire service amongst others.
