Will my spent conviction hold me back

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and wanted to get some advice. I'm currently at university studying policing as my goal is to join the police force. 2 years ago I caught without driving with insurance (stupid I know and wish it never happened). I got 6 points on my licence and got a fine. It's a spent conviction so by the time I finish uni it will be off my record and I can't apply till then. I applied to become a special but got rejected on those grounds. So I was wondering even though after 5 years will it still hinder my application and always be a black mark against me?

Would like to know what you guys think.

It will always be a black mark pointing towards irresponsibility, and a lot depends on the circumstances but, each application is dealt with on its merits and this varies from Force to Force. The conviction and points will always be on record at DVLA.

You will have to show that you have matured and reformed over the last few years. Good luck anyway.
