Best CID shift pattern.

Recommended Posts

To all you detectives out there. Is there a decent CID shift pattern that we can adopt? We have four teams but the DCI wants two shifts working days on a Saturday, but we want two weekends off in the 28 day rota. I think it's impossible. Any ideas??

we run a 4 team 4 week pattern

M   T   W   T   F   S   S

D   R   R    R   D  E   E

R   R   E    E   E   R   R

L   L   L    L    R   R   R

E   E   R   R    L   L   L

D - 0800-1800

E - 0700-1700

L - 1300-2300

R - Rest day

Two teams on at weekends. I like it.

We have 3 shifts and work 3 lates, 3 days, 3 rest days.

Excellent shift pattern especially starting back on a late and finishing on a day.

In the CID in South Wales we work 10hr shifts 0800-1800 day shifts and 1400 - 0000hrs evenings, with five days on and four off. 2 weekends off a month. I have been 20yrs in the CID and just about every rota you can think of and this is by far the best.

It should really be one weekend off a month, just like duty groups. Weekends are the busiest times when duty groups need CID to attend and deal with the jobs, so the right officer attends the job, first time…………..Remember it is not what is good for the DC's, it is what is good for the Bosses:P

... what is good for the victims.

Or do we say, 'sorry, you should have been robbed/burgled/assaulted during the week. Our detectives prefer to work then.'

Our Force no longer has a traditional CID. We have a crime directorate, divided into a number of individual units. The vast majority of specialist teams work predominantly Monday to Friday with skeleton weekend cover, meaning officers work probably one weekend in four.

The team which comprises most staff, and investigates core volume crime, also dealing with all dynamic prisoners who come through the doors and are not destined for the specialist teams, work the shift pattern from Hell. They work seven weekends in nine, ludicrous amounts of overtime, and are all carrying crime queues lengthy enough to make your eyes water.

Not surprisingly, no detective wants to work there. Despite it being bread and butter work.

Looks like CID are all coming back to districts as the crime team as HQ did not work, I could have told them that, bigger is not better. The Chief Supt. will now be in charge of them and looks like they will be working two weekends in four. Each district are working a different shift pattern so it is up to bosses to decide, detectives not happy, welcome to the real world:P
