'How to Become a PCSO' CD... any thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Particularly the 'How 2 Become' Role Play CD...  or even the 'How to pass the PCSO interview' pack...

Anyone got feedback from these?

I said this to someone else yesterday...!

Do not use any CD's DVD's (your police force will probably recommend a book).

At my pre Assessment Centre Briefing last week we were told not to use any CD's or DVD's as they are deemed cheating and give false information.

If you do use them and are found out then your application will be failed.

Get some good books and good luck!

Thanks for that, I think the arguments against these CDs outweigh the arguments for them.

I think anyone could deny having watched them, as no-one could find out

unless they told other candidates or colleagues about it. I guess the

candidate, if successful, would always wonder if they would still have

passed without them. Hmmm, I guess I could say the same about books...

I think the difference is that the DVD's and CD's give you actual examples and 'answers' where as the books just guide you to fnd your own examples and answers.

I also think if you are willing to cheat and be dishonest then what kind of police officer will you be....

Now, that's a really good point! Not only that, but you'd be cheating yourself.

Still, the very fact that these items are so readily available and

extensively advertised, I really wonder how many candidates will have

used them (the Cds and DVDs)? Now that would be interesting...

It would not be difficult for recruiting departments to buy these CDs, look at the answers given in the CDs/DVDsand then subtly alter the question. Any person giving the answer from the CD would then show out.

The recruiting personnel are not stupid. They recognise dishonesty when they see it, which is just as well because there's something evil about a dishonest copper or PCSO.

Can't argue with that. As a member of the public, I would expect PCSOs and PCs to be trustworthy.

In any case, I feel I've probably covered a broad enough range to feel

as prepared as I could be. Knowing 'too much' has its dangers, too- it

makes people overconfident and 'overprepared'- which does show up in

someone's personality- which can just as easily lead to their downfall.
