Sister Purity's Posting Problems

Recommended Posts

Nope.. I'm on from work at the moment Wink I'm seriously considering buying a new computer for home - seems a bit extreme just so I can continue to post on here! I've tried everything, deleted all the cookies, removed all links to the Oracle and replaced them all... it still says I don't have sufficient permission to post! I did manage to do a screen print of the message, but since it won't allow me to email you from home... I can't send it to you!

Daft question, I know... but you are actually logged in at home, aren't you? It sounds as if the forum isn't recognising you as a member.

I can log in at home no problem. It just doesn't let me do anything other than read. It says my log in has been successful...

In response to Pens' question, I use AOL as my IP provider and was connecting through that no problem on all the computers at home, then one by one the access through to the posting and PM facility became blocked. I have no idea why it has changed. I have only fiddled with the settings etc since the blocking occurred. I thought at first I'd been naughty and been blocked, but there was no wrist-slapping email, so I knew it wasn't that!

Talking as a complete technotwit here... so probably talking rubbish, but my anti-virus didn't like one of the tracking cookies here, perceiving it as a threat, and when I allowed it to "fix" it, it wouldn't allow me to log on... big tears and tribulations until Mr M sorted it. Maybe you've also "fixed" something similar? Question

Very much so. I have come to the conclusion that the place I took my computer to knows jack..... I can still only connect to this forum via my husband's lappy on IE or at work. I can't even get IE on my own computer now.... God knows why... and He's not letting on.

Well the problems continue. I can now no longer post onto the forum from work. It allows me to sign in, and says the sign in has been successful, but it says I cannot post (or email the mods!) If the connection via hubby's computer on internet explorer packs up as well, that'll be it!

I have no idea which version of IE it was. I do use AOL as my ISP on broadband. Why the heck it should suddenly stop allowing me to post etc is a complete mystery...

Ah, AOL. I suspected that may have been the case. AOL is not an Internet Service Provider as such. It is a private network that allows you to also look out of the window and see the internet. Because of this control, AOL often causes problems as they keep their own standards, rather than accepted international standards.

First off, AOL has a modified IE browser, AOL9. Try just using ordinary Internet Explorer or Firefox. As long as your broadband is connected, you can use any browser you like. In dial-up AOL you used to need AOL9 to connect and so needed that to run as well but this does not apply to broadband.

You may like to consider a proper ISP. However, this would come with a little problem. AOL do not like to lose your money. They will only accept subscribers that use continuous authority on a card. This means that only they can stop the flow of money; you have no rights whatsoever. They have a long history of saying that they will stop the payments but failing to do so. Most people find that after six months or so, and often by using the small claims court, AOL will eventually stop the payment but they will keep the interst they have earned on the money. The only certain way of stopping the payments is to close the card account and start another one elsewhere. No money in the account = no payment to AOL.

Another thing you could try is to "re-join" with a new username. If that worked, it would have to be something in your current profile. If the problems continue, it would have to be something outside the forum.

I havent paid AOL for internet services for some years... they don't charge those people who "piggy-back" in from another broadband provider. I pay fees to Virgin broadband, but use AOL as my main connection.
