  1. Essex Police - What a mess

RB stated at a recent meeting at HQ that Essex Police have a good IT system ! Why is it then that : 1) It takes up to 2 minutes to actually log on to terminals, 2) You can only retrieve saved work from the terminal you created it and not from a terminal anywhere else ?? 3) We have a crime system where we still update on paper !!! I was able to input and update all my crimes in the Met in the early 90's for Christ sake. In Essex we input on paper it gets put onto the computer by someone else then given back to you on paper to complete any enqs. Once done you re submit it for someone to update the computer, and they wonder why things do not get done or get lost. If the newly created Crime Bureau take a crime over the phone then they will e mail it to the next officer on the list who then has to print the lot off do his enqs and re submit it as before. What a shower !!
  2. I have never understood why officers do not handcuff prisoners. I have worked in the Met, Herts and am currently in Essex (but not for much longer though !) In the Met we virtually always cuffed prisoners and 9 times out of 10 they went in a van. I never had a problem in justifying the cuffing, but then again why should we ? It should be a national policy and the public should just accept it. The previous comment about more vans is totally correct. Herts and Essex tend to put their prisoners into the cars without much regard for their own safety. Alot of the time these prisoners are not even searched !
  3. Acting up !

Have spoken to the Fed reps, but it differs depending on who you talk to which is why I am confused.
  4. Acting up !

I am a long term 'actor' on my shift and have passed the 14 days before you get paid. I have been paid for all the usual acting just not the football operation ?
  5. Acting up !

Can anyone help ? When working in the Met and Herts I was always able to claim acting pay if conducting the role of a sergeant. However in Essex when the world cup was on I was asked to perform the role of a sergeant in order to control and run part of a national operation looking at football hooligans. I have now been told that for those 4 weeks or so I will not be paid any acting salary as I was not replacing an existing sergeant's slot as the position was made up for the operation. Is this the case ?

  7. fire arms, another poll

I agree with Maverick, there are alot of officers I would hate to see in possession of a firearm. I would also like to see more armed officers but still on a volunteer basis. As an AFO myself and being trained on Taser, I strongly believe that the sooner we get the taser out to the front line Divisional officer the better. They deal with much more incidents where taser would be appropriate. At present the use of taser still requires a firearms authority ! Why ?
  8. This is an editorial written by a British citizen, published in a National newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please! IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITS MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on the 7th of the 7th we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain, Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. (The Danes, Romans ect.) However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britain's we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Indian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "Land of Hope & Glory" is our motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If the 'Union Jack' flag offends you, or you don't like our QUEEN, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our Laws give every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our lifestyle our government, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great BRITISH freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for Gt. Britain to Speak up anon..
  9. Police and Criminal Slang

B.I.D. - Refers to the code used on the CAD when we had to attend the hospital if a person was Brought In Dead by ambulance. GRUBBY - Affectionate term used by Sergeants when talking about the constables under their supervision. SCROAT - Term used to describe a criminal. THE MET - Metropolitan Police (Not 'The Mets' as used by some forces !).
  10. Police and Criminal Slang

Suprised that nobody has included 'Pondlife' to describe the good old criminal. CAD - Computer system in the Met for recording incidents. FATDWP - Code used to close a CAD (F**k All To Do With Police) GRUB - Refreshments

The balls say it all about Essex Police !
