  13. C4 Thurs 21.00 and presumably on 4OD soon. I've only just switched it on I can't believe what prisoners do to each other to get hold or drugs. What is portrayed in the programme isn't good for prisoners and it isn't good for the few staff who remain working. I don't care how badly anyone thinks a prisoner should be treated but there is no way that this could be seen as a positive situation. Prisoners need education, they need to be treated with humanity and they need a positive environment or otherwise they will come out worse than they went in and with no skills or prospects. This programme comes in the week when the government finally acknowledged that the prison service need more staff and today's news was saying that the number of staff leaving currently outnumber the numbers being recruited.
  14. Judges pensions - a right old can of worms

The area I have no sympathy with is that the Judges don't make any contributions to their current final salary scheme and even after it is reformed they still won't be expected to make much of a contribution, however that being said I don't think that it should be changed for people who are already in it. If that had happened there wouldn't be any issues of age discrimination. I now say good luck to them because as you say Billy the fallout could be massive.
  15. Judges pensions - a right old can of worms

To a certain extent I have no sympathy with the Judges position as their current scheme is literally one that money can't buy, however I also believe that schemes shouldn't be changed after they have been entered into and therefore their pension shouldn't be changed for current Judges. I am also looking forward to the arguments that they will put up and to see how the Tories react. Its going to be the case that the old boys network will be up against the old boys network with each having the establishment on their side!
  16. Spit Hoods.....

Meanwhile in Wales the PCC for South Wales Alun Michael seems to be living in some sort of fantasy land as he has stated that South Wales police don't need spit hoods as they solve problems by being nice and friendly to people. Personally I wouldn't mind if he objected to spit hoods and used a logical argument to express his thoughts but to come out with some rubbish about not needing them because his officers are friendlier than most is complete and utter rubbish and displays a staggering level of naivety.
  17. NPPF

Good luck . I've used Police Pass books twice now, once for my part one and also now that I'm doing my NIE. They do crammer courses as well as online tutorials and have a stock of online questions. They aren't cheap but they are useful. They also cut through the extraneous irrelevant waffle that Blackstones likes to add so if you want something straight forward they may be the way to go. I'm sure that other people offer books and course so ask around in your force and have a look at the books on offer and see what suits you.
  18. Spit Hoods.....

I've pulled a woolly hat down over someone's face and mouth to stop them spitting at me. I found it quite funny when they complained that they couldn't breath whilst being able to shout at me through the hat!
  19. Spit Hoods.....

Last time the story was prominent a human rights group said that the police already had enough tools to deal with spitting without using spit hoods. I'm still wondering what they meant exactly because I don't think a stern shout of 'don't spit at me', the application of handcuffs or even a swift tap with an ASP will do much to stop a vile cretin who is intent on degrading me with their disgusting behaviour.
  20. Donald Trump

Its interesting to see the BBC headlines stating that 1000's of people are protesting against Trump. Last time I checked there were 250m people in America so the fact that 10,000 people protested against Trump must be outweighed by the 205m who weren't protesting, but which carries most weight in the eyes of the BBC?
  21. Donald Trump

Oh dear In some ways he had better try to do everything he had pledged otherwise the more red necked of his supporters will try to lynch him, but if he fails then those supporters will also leave him in droves at the next election. He seems to appeal to a large number of people who are frustrated with the status quo and who feel locked out of the current political system in the US. Clinton in many ways summed that system up but it could also be seen in the number of Republicans disowning him as the campaign went on. Trump also represents many of the things that Brexit voters were also looking for i.e. a leader or a campaign which listened to their concerns rather than playing lip service to them.
  22. Jobs aiding Polic application

As Jmmurphy said being a SPC can help and I would say that customer service jobs can also be a bonus as you'll get chance to learn how to talk to people as well as putting up with abuse. Having said that I've got 'turkey plucker' on my CV and that hasn't done me any harm!
  23. Facebook & other social media

Facebook causes the police a lot of problems but its also a good tool to use. We deal with a lot of playground name calling harassment by people using social media although there are genuine cases of serious trolling as well. FB also shows would be burglars when people are away or that they have bough the latest gucci accessory, and it can show peoples regular movements which could potentially aid a serious attack. It can also help us because of some of those things as it can give evidence of relationships or even show when people have been bragging after an assault or robbery. You can restrict your privacy settings to 'just me' by going to the padlock icon on the top right hand side. It can show you what people can see about you and how you can restrict access. Restricting your profile though will only do half the job if your partner continually posts about you and what they are doing.
  24. PCSO Patrol Boots and socks

They should be fine. It tends to be stitches on the toe end of the boot certain Supers don't like as I learnt from bitter experience.
  25. PCSO Patrol Boots and socks

Try on a few pairs because as you said you'll be in them for long hours at a time so try to find a shop to go to rather than buying online. They'll also need to be black and plain.
