  6. Off-Duty Night Out

It really all depends, if an officer has been drinking alcohol then it's highly unlikely they will step in. Equally, even if they haven't been drinking it's probably best to just call for on-duty units and be a "professional witness" as they won't have any radio or protective equipment and if the person tries to fight they could be at a handi-cap. General rule of thumb is, unless you absolutely have to don't bother getting involved as you could cause more trouble.
  7. Start arming UK police?

Personally, I don't see how nearly all countries arm their police on a daily basis and we don't... There are countries with gun laws similar to ours who still arm their officers every single day. This thing about "Great British Policing" needs to stop, pride and appearance shouldn't be a reason for not arming the police, it should be based on a factual risk assessment of the current climate, which I believe makes arming all officers a more realistic idea. I think, train all officers to "AFO" level or similar and keep our SFO and CTSFO for the more complex jobs.
  8. Suspect not providing name...

Seems I have been proven wrong, well done Sir! :)
  9. Walk The Beat

Absolutely agree, I know locals who will only give me information as I'm the only officer they can say they "know".
  10. Suspect not providing name...

Having just read the transcript it doesn't appear totally apparent to the question in play, Rice had not been identified as having committed an offence. The question being asked on this thread relates to someone whom you have identified as committing an offence, whom you are trying to process who then decides not to give pars, thus making it impossible for you to process them. This is clearly obstructing police and I don't see how it couldn't be?
  11. Walk The Beat

I walk the beat as much as I can, I know my patch and most of the locals know me. Having said that, having a vehicle is a god send for most tasks and enables you to do things much quicker.
  12. Suspect not providing name...

Can you provide this case law? A custody sergeant will add a charge of obstruction of you refuse pars during booking in so why would I not be able to execute that same power? Happy to be proven wrong, the great thing about this forum is that we can discuss opinions and ideas without too many problems.
  13. Suspect not providing name...

I can not effectively process the person without their name and address, which means I am being obstructed from carrying out my duties. I'm going along the lines of "Willful obstruction" which is any act which makes it more difficult for me to effectively carry out my role. I could simply process the person for the offence in 5 minutes but by refusing to give me your name you are giving me no option but to arrest you as it is my only other means of disposal, making my job as a police officer more difficult. @Sectioned Detection

Personally I'd arrest for the original offence and also obstructing police as the suspect will have committed both offences.

  18. Missing person mandatory information

Generally providing you're over 18 the information the police give to the person who reported you missing is down to your discretion. You can choose to have no information fed back at all as you are legally an adult and providing you are safe and well you're not actually "missing" in the true sense of the word.

  20. Constant false allegations

I have edited the above thread post to ensure it complies with site policy, namely: Personal and specific complaints If you want to make a complaint against the police, you should contact the Professional Standards Department of that Force directly with an official complaint (this will be explained on the Force website). Police Specials is a recreational forum used by police members and non police members alike- our members are not aware of the full facts of any such incident, and in any case this forum is unable to offer any practical help. The members may be able to shed light on peripheral policing details, but- much as you would not report a crime on this website- this is not the place to try and hold people responsible or to make your complaint known.
  21. Constant false allegations

Having seen recent comments on this thread and taking into account all current factors I am happy for this thread to continue on the basis that the participants have read and understood our standard legal disclaimer. At this point I see no breach of forum rules or foul play at hand so this thread will not be closed. -Sapor62

  25. Where have they gone

Pros and Cons of being Met to be honest, for the most part I enjoy it but I do know things are done much better elsewhere. For me it's a case of, I don't have a degree or enough money to do a CKP so I joined the SC to get into the regular force. One step at a time...
