Centrex Training
Centrex is the name of the National Police Training School, responsible for
most training courses available to police forces in the UK.
Centrex is the working name of the Central Police Training and Development Authority.
Stage 2 Foundation Training introduces core policing skills, provides basic
knowledge of the law and strengthens the qualities of judgement needed to perform
well on patrol. Probationers are continuously monitored throughout the 12 week course.
Students complete weekly knowledge checks to identify their strengths and weaknesses
as well as being assessed on their core skills in a 5 station Skills Development Exercise, this
is very similar to the Carousel taken during the Assessment Day
Training uses classroom lessons and a variety of simulated role-play scenarios in pubs, shops and houses.
Facilities at Centrex Training Centres include:
Bar
Canteen
Gym
Swimming Pool

Centrex Training Centres Closure
Centrex Training Centres will be closing next year to make way for local forces to deliver their own training courses
to student officers. For many forces this will involve training at local training centres (universities, colleges) and will more than
likely be non-residential. The last intake to complete the 12 week stage 2 residential training will commense stage 2 training on the 20th February 2006.
