You can now apply to the police force online @ PoliceCouldYou.co.uk

Prior to filling in, and submitting an application you will need to answer some basic criteria questions relating mainly to security and medical issues. If your answers are satisfactory you will be forwarded on to fill in the online application form.

When completing your application remember to:

  • Complete the form clearly, using black ink.
  • Use block capitals (unless specified otherwise).
  • Answer ALL questions by providing the required information. Write 'Not Applicable' where relevant.
  • Do not submit a CV as an alternative to completing questions on the form.
  • Try where possible to contain your answers to the space allocated. If you require more space continue on a separate sheet, indicating the question number it refers to.
  • Return the form in an A4 envelope - Do not fold the form up into a small envelope
  • Take a photocopy of the prior to sending it off

What information is required?

  • Basic personal information (name, address etc)
  • Nationality
  • British Citizen?
  • Criminal convictions - Not all convictions disqualify you from appointment
  • Previous service in any Police Force or Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve)
  • Previous applications to join any Police Force
  • Referees - A family member cannot be a referee

The application form will include a number of compentency based questions, the questions will focus on you as an individual and experiences you have had in the past. An example of one of these questions would be:

Q 1. Describe a time where you challenged another persons behaviour. What did you do? Why did you do it? What was the outcome?

If it is found that you have knowingly provided false information, or withheld information that is asked of you your employment can be terminated.

Application forms can still be requested in the normal way through your local police force or through the PoliceCouldYou website
