National Assessment process
The carousel has now been adopted by all forces and incorporated into the
National Recruitment Model.
The carousel consists of 8 rooms, in each room you will be faced with a different
scenario which you will have to deal with.
The 8 rooms are divided into the following:
Role Play Exercises | Four Rooms
Report Writing | Two Rooms
Empty to reflect on your performance | Two Rooms
There will be a sign outside each room telling you what you can expect
upon entering the room. You will have approximately one minute to read this information prior
to entering the room.
Inside each role-play room will be an actor and an assessor.
The assessor will stay out of the way, normally in a corner behind you
and it will be their sole responsibility to assess your performance.
You will have five minutes in each room.
Candidates will be assessed on the key skills needed to be a Police Officer.
This does not mean you need to be an expert in criminal law or police procedure
as this can be taught once offered a place. What is being assessed are
skills that no training course can offer. Compassion and understanding
for others. The ability to listen and offer advice to someone at their
lowest point. These are the skills that come from within, not out of a textbook!
