Structured Interview
Part of the assessment day will involve you sitting a structured interview which has now been adopted by all forces as part of the national recruitment model.

In the interview you will be asked 4 competency based questions and will be assessed on the answers you give

you will be asked 4 questions by the interviewer who will also assess your responses against the core competencies

Final Interview

Many forces are re-introducing a board style interview. You will be interviewed by recruitment staff to judge your suitability for the role. You will be invited to attend a final interview if you are successful at the assessment centre stage of the recruitment process.

Questions to expect

  • When have you challenged racism?
  • Give as example where you have stuck by a decision, despite everyone else disagreeing with you
  • Most importantly
    Be yourself, the police do not want good actors!

    You won't be expected to know the in depth role of a police officer but you will have been expected to do some research, i.e. what have you done to prepare yourself for this interview...have you checked the web site, spoken with real police officers, read publications, leaflets, booklets, etc.

    You may well be asked for examples from your own experience. For instance a decision that you have made which went wrong and what you learnt from that experience.
